The practice was founded in 1976 and was extended in 1994 to incorporate a new company as Martin Stancliffe Architects Limited.
The practice consists of directors, qualified architects, a planning supervisor, support and administration staff. Of the 9 technical staff, 7 are qualified architects, some of whom have post graduate conservation qualifications. Both Directors are Accredited Architects in Building Conservation.
The practice acts as architect, historic buildings advisor and conservation consultant to a wide variety of restoration, alteration and conservation based projects, in particular where projects involve conservation and adaptation of significant historic buildings.
To complement our extensive work on conservation based repair, refurbishment and enhancement projects, we undertake condition surveys and assessments of historic properties including cathedrals, castles, abbeys, churches, country houses and other listed buildings and ancient monuments. We also carry out feasibility studies and heritage assessments for a wide variety of projects ensuring their effective planning, development and funding.

The practice specialises in all aspects of research, advice, design, construction and enhancement, centered on the historic buildings in particular, but also historic landscapes and environments.
In addition to the repair and restoration of historic buildings, the practice has extensive experience of projects which include alterations, conversions and extensions to existing buildings and the sympathetic design of appropriate new buildings in sensitive historic contexts.
The practice works closely with other disciplines including structural engineers, quantity surveyors, mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, archaeologists, historians, landscape architects, and specialist craftsmen and conservators.
The practice is often involved with projects where grants form an integral part of the project funding and we have excellent working relationships with grant giving bodies such as English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund. |
